The addition of a GReddy intercooler is one of the best ways to safely increase horsepower in a turbocharged engine. By reducing the engine's inlet temperatures, a denser air charge will enter the engine; this can make more horsepower at the same boost level and even more power at higher boost levels. Even if there is a factory-installed intercooler, generally these stock units are not ideal even for factory boost levels. They are usually mounted in awkward locations and become very susceptible to heat saturation. Factory intercoolers generally are not ideal for increased boost levels. GReddy Intercooler Kits are specifically designed, sized and fabricated for a wide variety of turbo applications (from low - medium boost levels on converted normally aspirated vehicles, to mild - high boost-up applications on stock turbocharger set ups, to even extreme boost levels, with large turbo upgrades)
GReddy Spec. R cores feature a high heat-dissipating "inner-fin" technology. They are recommended for medium to high boost levels on higher horsepower or upgraded turbo engines. The larger internal surface area provides a superior cooling efficiency for radiating excessive heat and minimizing heat soak. In addition to being a light-weight tube and fin design, all Spec R cores also get an unique GReddy process, called "CCP" to chemically polish the outer tube surface. This increases the visual appeal while prolonging the corrosion resistance.
Some Spec R kits are labeled "HG" or High Grade; these kits feature piping and end-tanks that have been hand-polish to a mirror finish for the ultimate in aesthetic quality.
